Ukraine Crisis: A Trouble Spot!

The Russia-Ukraine crisis has scaled up to a real threat as Russia deployed more than 100,000 troops along Ukraine border. On the other hand, the US joins hands to support Ukraine with 8,500 troops on red alert to prevent such an offensive approach from the opponent side, on Monday.

Meanwhile, the ongoing talk between the US & Russia provides no such eminent solution as both parties perpetuating the conflict so long.

Russia-Ukraine Story

Russia and Ukraine both possess a strong presence in Europe, containing the strategic location. Ukraine was the former Soviet republic of the USSR, which was collapsed in 1991 since then this country remain independent cut off from Russia's influence.
However, the ethnic element remain persisted as dynasty origin belong to Russia. In recent decades Ukraine inclines itself more towards Europe and intends to join NATO, the politics of Pro-Russian and Pro-Western subjugated within Ukrainian people creates a huge flux in the internal politics of Ukraine.

In March 2014, the anti-government protests in Ukraine caused the Kremlin removal from power, the following year Russia invaded and annexed the Crimean Peninsula. In later months, pro-Russian separatists began capturing territory from the Donestk and Luhansk region of Eastern Ukraine. More than 14,000 people were killed during the ongoing fight there and thousands of displaced.

What happens next?

Since the Crimen annexation, major events happen that subtly trigger the tension in Ukrainian territory. Let's Review it in bullet points:
  • In September 2014, an agreement "Minsk" signed in Belarus calling for a ceasefire which didn't even last for a month.
  • Next year, the same agreement resigned with more monitored OSCE policy and with the withdrawal of heavy weapons from both sides.
  • Then the year comes in 2017, the Ukrainian Parliament adopts legislation that shows intentions to join NATO.
  • In the year 2020, Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy approves strategic policy by laying a foundation to join NATO.
  • Following years, the bilateral relations got worse as Moscow assembled troops along with tanks and heavy weapons.
  • The dialogues process began in 2022 when Russia, NATO, and OSCE meet in Geneva to de-escalate tension in Ukraine.

Russia holds Military Excercise

Military Drill is expected to begin in the coming week between Russia and Belarus as part of "Allied Resolve" exercises, which further raised the concern amongst NATO members: a fear of invasion. Russia has sent military forces and two S-400 battalions of surface-to-air missiles to Belarus.

Will Russia invade Ukraine?

There are possible routes where Russia has an advantageous position to invade Ukraine if the diplomacy fails and western power misguide the escalation: Putin's administration may invade Ukraine just like in Crimea back in 2014.
