China's underground missile silos, a source of worry for the US

It was estimated from research institutes of the US that China has about 250 underground missile silos under construction, which were identified through satellite imageries. These major expansions of China's nuclear underground silos further rise the tension between Washington and Beijing, experts believe.

The US Strategic Command, which oversees America's nuclear arsenal has tweeted this week which shows the concerns of this proliferation.

This was the second field reported in the Xinjiang region the same year, the first one identified by the Non-Proliferation studies at the James Martine Center in California, "another field under construction in neighboring Gansu province." The report came at a time when the relationship between the US and China goes to the worst extent. Both the states have engaged in several issues like trade, technology, cybersecurity, and aggressive foreign policy under the regime of Xi Jinping.

The expansion of nuclear force from China surely makes an impact on those disputed issues which confront both the states on the brink of clash over high-intensity flashpoints such as the South China Sea or Taiwan.

The state-owned editor from the US and their media hyping the report on nuclear proliferation to pressurize China, however, China has not responded yet on this report.

"The Chinese missile silo program constitutes the foremost extensive silo constructive since the US and Soviet missile silo construction during the Cold War, mentioned by Matt Korda and Hans Kristensen in the Federation of American Scientists report.

Moreover, China has far away from the nuclear race against the nuclear giant US and Russia, both the states have about 6,000 nuclear warheads while China has an estimated 400 warheads. Though, China has doubled its nuclear arsenal in less than 10 years. The increasing number of warheads in a short span of time worried Pentagon.
