India-Pakistan I Cold Start Doctrine

PLA soldiers transgressed the LAC, but this time in Uttarakhand

China has provoked India at the border again. This time the spot is Uttarakhand, a state situated in northern India. The state was formed on the 9th of November 2000, as the 27th State of India. It was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh, located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, a large hilly state, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east.

The report says 100 soldiers from the People's Liberation Army transgress the Line of Actual Control last month. The Chinese are building new troop shelters at the LAC, installing S-400 missile system, and boosting military infrastructure. They were so aggressive instead of pulling back its troops from Laddakh, China is doubling down. Let's discuss this in detail!

It happened on the 30th of August, the Chinees troops entered more than 5km into Indian territory through the Barahoti ridge by crossing Tun Jun La. The PLA brought them with 55 horses, they stayed for around 3 hours and retreated before the patrol teams from the Indian forces reached the spot.

Some infrastructure in the area was damaged. This includes a bridge, reportedly the local residents had first spotted the Chinese soldiers. They informed the authority that is when the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibleton police force dispatched their patrol teams.

Why is this transgression worrying India?

The Chinese soldiers entered a demilitarized zone, where the PLA is not supposed to be there. But, reports suggested that the Chinese soldiers have tried to infiltrate the Barahoti area before in recent months. The PLA has stepped up its activities along the line of LAC.

There have been three major developments.

1. The PLA has built more accommodation for its soldiers in the forward areas.

2. New airstrips and helipads have come up in the border areas.

3. The Chinese have deployed advanced weapons and the Chinese soldiers have been carrying out night exercises.

Moreover, China has built new modular container-based accommodations. They have been built at least eight forward locations along the LAC. These accommodations have been created in high-altitude areas presumably to acclimatize the Chinese soldier to the worst possible conditions. China has been beefing up this infrastructure for a while now.

Back in June, the report claimed that China has built permanent and temporary accommodation in different areas Rodokh, Gyanse, and Golmud.

In addition to living quarters, China has constructed field hospitals there as well. Clearly, the Chinese soldiers are preparing for the long haul and they are bringing heavy weapons to the front. The deployment of the S-400 missile near the border is quite shocking! So far these systems have been deployed at two locations - the Hotan Air-base in Xinjiang and the Neingxi Air-base in Tibet.

From those bases, China can easily target or engaged Indian fighter jets in the air even if they are 400km away.

By deploying advanced weapons they also trained their soldiers on how to use these weapons. Drills have become more frequent now, recently the PLA carried out a night battle exercise in the Xinjiang region at an altitude of over 16,000 feet.

In recent years, the PLA has introduced more night drills for the unit stationed near the Himalayan border. Why? because it wants the troops to familiarize themselves with the new generation's weapons and equipment.
